New York Beauties

There is a button on my right side bar about a New York Beauty quilt along I've decided to participate in. I know I don't really need another project, but I LOVE this type of block, in all its wonderful variety, and have always wanted to do a quilt from them. So I figured this was as good a time as any. There will be a different block posted each week, with instructions on how to do them. I am going to attempt to do 4 of each. There is also a monthly colour palette challenge being hosted by Vicki Welsh and Judy Laquidara. I've borrowed the picture of this month's palette from Vicki's blog.
I've been wanting to play along with this challenge. There is a different palette given each month. I thought that I would combine doing the New York Beauty blocks with the colour challenge. So, I went digging through my fat quarter collection, and came up with some that came close to the colours shown in the graphic. My greys aren't the same as in the challenge palette, but they were as close as I could get, without going and buying something. And the monitor on the computer in my sewing room showed the greys as being bluer than this one does.

And these are the 2 New York Beauties that I have done so far. These are the basic ones. The rest will have a lot more pieces in them, and be a lot more fun, and a lot more challenging to do. So, I'll continue to do the rest of the blocks posted this month in these colours, and come April, I might start doing them in April's colours, depending on what they are. So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing.
And now, since I can't put it off any longer, I'd best go and start getting ready for a shift at the hospital this afternoon. I have a week off after today, and am hoping to get lots and lots of fun quilty stuff done during that week.

  3. I saw the button the last time I visited your blog. I have bought a book on New York Beauty blocks...I'm still on the fence about this one--Judy's comment above is of no help in keeping up my resolve ;) . But I love your fabrics!

I love reading all your comments, and am grateful for each one. I try very hard to answer them all, but lately I haven’t quite been able to answer all of them.
