Sunday Stash and Stitching Report

It was another glorious summer day here today. A perfect chance to sit out in the relative quiet of the back yard and stitch on my hand project. Relative quiet because there’s always the noise of the neighbourhood air conditioners running. I finally came in about an hour ago because I wasn’t fussy about the neighbours choice of back yard music. But that’s OK, I needed to sit down and figure out my stash numbers and write up this report.
I have decided that this wall hanging is done. I had played around with the idea, suggested by someone last week, of adding in a few smaller hexie flowers in the open background areas in the corners. I made up a couple today, put them in place, immediately said “yuck” and took them back out again. I am declaring it finished as it is now. I’ll fill in the background areas with some quilting, to give it a bit more punch.
I haven’t quite decided what is next after this. So, in order to fill in time until I do, I’m going to make up some hexagon flowers and turn them into pin cushions. We’re looking for articles to sell at the member’s boutique for our upcoming quilt show. I haven’t any pictures of the pin cushions, since I only have 2 hexagon flowers made so far.
I did some major stash addition this past week. I have a new quilt all planned out in Electric Quilt, one that will eventually be published, I hope. I normally make my quilts from stash that I have available here at home, with maybe the small addition as necessary. But this quilt just came to life for me while I was designing it, and it is living in colours that I don’t have a lot of. Hence the purchase of these fabrics. It added a whopping 13 yards to my in numbers.

Used this week:                            1.5 yards
Used this year:                         38.85 yards
Added this week:                           13 yards
Added this year:                        45.45 yards
Net stash added:                            8.6 yards

A couple of quilt backs should get me back into positive numbers again. And I am hoping to get some  more of my quilts backed and into the line up soon. I’m linking up to Judy’s Stash Report and Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching. Then it might be time for some Netflix and some knitting.

Slow Sunday Stash and Stitching Report

I’m continuing to work on my small hexagon piece. It’s using a combination of fussy cutting and pieced hexagons, a technique that was taught at a workshop at the guild by Karen from Faeries and Fibres. The centre star has 6 inch sides and the hexagons around it have 1 inch sides. As shown it is currently measuring about 22x24.
I am wondering, should I do another border of more pieced hexagons? Does it look finished to you, or does it need more? If I did add more, it would be pieced hexagons the same size as what are in the centre of the piece now. I decided to add some colour onto the points of the star by fussy cutting some 60 degree triangles from the fabric the star was made from. I like the added definition it gives.  Looking at the picture, I’ve decided that the blue rosette on the right doesn’t quite stand out enough, so I’ll be changing that one to a brighter one.

The stash has had some significant reduction in the past week. I finished off some borders for a quilt and made a backing for another one.

Used this week:                                 5.6 yards
Used this year:                                35.35 yards
Added this week:                                   0 yards
Added this year:                              32.45 yards
Net stash busted:                                   2.9 yards

I’m linking up to Judy’s Stash Report and Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching and Angie’s WIPs Be Gone. Then it’s time for a cool drink and some stitching time outside on the swing.

Sunday Stash and Slow Stitching

Another two weeks have gone by, and I have a little bit of progress to show on the hand stitching project. It’s been a gorgeous day here, and I’ve spent most of it sitting on my swing, happily stitching away. I’m working on the last of the hexagons to go into the centre section of this piece, and then I can decide on what to do about going further.
I want a narrow border of some sort, and then a wider cream border for more of the pieced hexagons. There is a border stripe print up in my studio that has some butterflies that might be interesting there. Those might get cut this coming week. I’m also considering adding some fussy cut triangles to the points of the large star. It seems to me that there is too much beige blank space there. I’ll have to get them done and lay them out to see, but not at this moment in time.
I had some fabric arrive this week, so my stash added numbers have gone up and have put me into negative numbers, for a bit. I’m going to be doing some backings in the next week or two, for some projects of my own that need quilting, so that will get the numbers back where I want them again.

Used last two weeks:                  0 yards
Used this year:                          29.75 yards
Added last two weeks:               9 yards
Added this year:                     32.45 yards
Net stash added:                         2.7 yards

I’m linking up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching. It’s her fourth anniversary of the beginning of this link up series. It’s grown quite a bit in those four years, and the hand work on display each year is astounding. I’m also linking up to Judy’s Stash Report. Then it will be time to head indoors. There are thunderstorms headed our way.

Slow Sunday Stitching and Stash report

I’m working, little by little, at my wall hanging that is using Karen Howes’ pieced hexagon techniques. It’s a slow process, which is why it’s slow Sunday stitching. It can’t be rushed or hurried. So in the process of doing it, my brain is forced to slow down, and enjoy the process. There are three more hexagon units to add around this star. Then I think it’s going to get a border of some sort, followed by a border of more pieced hexagons. Karen had a give away a few months back, and I won a choice of one of her pattern packs. I chose her Easier than Pie book 5. They are all printed out and ready to go.
I’ve switched spots where I’m stitching today. Rather transiting in my trusty, comfy recliner beside the window, I’ve moved over to a glider rocker that is right beside the area where my husband paints. We’re working on our separate projects, but are close enough to chat, should we wish. There’s quiet worship music playing in the background and life is so very good!
I’ve finished up the piecing for a quilt this past week, so this week I can count some of the blocks that hadn't yet been added to the stash report.

Used since May 23:                                     3.3 yards
Used this year:                                         29.75 yards
Added since May 23:                                  .25 yards
Added this year:                                      23.45 yards
Net stash busted:                                         6.3 yards

It’s getting to be time for supper, so I’m going to link up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching and Judy’s Stash report and then go eat before doing some more stitching.

Sunday Stash and Stitching report.

Now that La Passacaglia is finished, it’s time to start working on a new hand project. Last November Karen, who blogs at Faeries and Fibres, did a trunk show and workshop at our guild. She has a unique set of designs for doing hexagons, which I’ve been itching to get at. But I kept putting it off until the beast of La Passacaglia was finished. The centre star section of this piece was started when I decided I would take part in a mystery hosted by Tonya at Hillbilly Quilt Shop. I never managed to get any further than the centre, so I thought I could use it for this workshop piece. This is the basic layout I’ll be doing. There will probably be some sort of a border and them more hexagons around the outside. I’ll probably appliqué them down to a background.

I had some fabric come in this week, but my used numbers are keeping up.

Used last 2 weeks:                                 5.5 yards
Used this year:                                      25.65 yards
Added last 2 weeks:                                9 yards
Added this year:                                    20.45 yards
Net stash busted:                                     5.2 yards
