What I’m working on

I’ve added the first of the next round to my Stay at Home Round Robin. The prompt for this round was “squares”. After searching around in Electric Quilt 8 I found this block which will end up forming a diagonal design of triangles and squares around the quilt.
 

It’s not the greatest picture, but it is getting too big for the available floor or wall space here. Often when my quilts get this size, I’ll do pictures outside, but the wind is really bad. The other choice is to go upstairs and use their front hall. But due to everybody being home, I didn’t want to go up and disrupt them.
I’m also slowly adding to the large scale floral squares. I now have 11.



This picture was taken before the 11th was finished. I am aiming for 25 squares. I have yet to come up with a name for this quilt.
I also loaded another of my really old tops onto the long arm with the goal of getting the quilting finished on all of my tops. This one was a free pattern called Avignon Picnic from the Moda Bake

Shop. 

It is going to get very simple straight line quilting following the lines of the while background.

Design Wall Monday, May 28, 2012

I spent a quiet day yesterday in my sewing room, and managed to get quite a bit done. Avignon Picnic is now a flimsy. I had been planning on putting borders on it, but when I hung it up on the wall, it told me that it was a perfect size for a twin bed, and that it considered itself done. I decided not to argue. LOL!
And I got a start on the quilt that I bought the fabric for on my trip out with Jannette. It's a
pattern from Judy Martin's new book, Patchwork Among Friends, called Heartland Star. I have to say, yet again, that I love her patterns, the way they are written, and the quick cutting rotary techniques she uses. Of course, it always helps to actually read the instructions. Somehow, I ended up making eight of these units, instead of four, my fault, not the pattern's. But, I'm sure I'll find a use for the other four somewhere. The next step is cutting and piecing the diamond units for the points of the stars. That might take a while. This time I'll make sure I double check the actual amounts I need. LOL!
I'm working today, and I still want to do some playing in my sewing room, and maybe get a start on the star points, so I'm making this a short one. As usual, I'm linking to Judy Laquidara's Design Wall Monday. If you've got a few minutes, there's always lots of fun stuff to see over there.

Design Wall Monday May 7, 2012

 There's a couple of things up on the wall today. I have half of Avignon Picnic sewn together, and the second half is now taken down, and sitting by my machine waiting for me to have a few minutes to work on it. The hardest part of this quilt was arranging it so that no 2 colours were touching. There are a couple that I couldn't avoid, no matter how hard I tried, so it is going to stay the way it is. Over all, I'm happy with the balance of colour in it. I have yet to decide about borders for this. I have Judy Laquidara's book 60 Pieced Borders, so I'm sure I can find something in there.

And then there are the NYB's. This is the last week of the NYB sew along. Past this point, I'll be doing blocks from EQ7. This is the general idea of the layout I think I'll use. I'm trying for a balance of colour, but also for the seams to be staggered, so that there isn't a lot of matching up to do and not a lot of thicknesses at any one spot. Design Wall Monday April 30, 2012

I have fallen behind on doing the NYB's. Life here has been too complex lately to continue the complex into my sewing. So I started a quilt that is on my Want-to-do list, Avignon Picnic, found in the Moda "Bake Shop". I wanted some easy, not have to think too hard, sewing to do, that would work up fast. This certainly fit that description. I used my jelly roll of "Flora" fabrics. It is working up into a very pretty, spring feeling quilt, to contrast with the very grey day outside today. All of the individual blocks are done, and the rest of them are paired up, and ready to be sewn together. It won't be happening today, though, since I have to work this afternoon at 3, which is only an hour and a half from now. Which makes this a very short post.
