Leo’s Mane Sew Along

Slow Sunday stitching

I’m continuing to work on La Passacaglia. I have one small section left to sew in the main body of the quilt, along those light purple stars. After that, I need to  add stars to two more rosettes and put them in on the right hand side. Then it will be just adding on the last of the white framing pieces. I am beginning to question my plans of appliquéing the white framing pieces to a white border. I’ve seen one done with the white sewn down onto a coloured border, and I really liked it. And looking at the picture of the entire piece laying on the dark coloured floor, I think I like the way the white against the dark makes the centre of this quilt shine out more. Almost like when framing a picture, there’s often a narrow white piece of matting before the larger coloured matt around the picture. I’m almost thinking that a wide white border will be too bright, and that’s all I’ll see. Any opinions..... yes or no to colour or white? Of course then the real question will be, what colour? Oh well, I have time before I get to that point. I’m linking up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching, and then it’s back to actually stitching.

  1. Looking spectacular! I like the idea of a coloured border...perhaps a lighter shade so that the centre can really shine!

  2. I can't remember the blog I saw it on (sorry!) but one gal used Robert Kaufman's Effervescence for her border and it looked amazing. She did a narrow border of a solid (in her case, blue) after cutting the edges of the quilt all straight. It was striking! I'm thinking green would be good for your quilt but it is just lovely and I don't think you can change that!

  3. Your quilt is stunning! I love how the sprinkling of solid fabrics makes all the others 'pop' , and really love that white framing them all!

  4. What a beautiful quilt! I can see that the white might be too light. Hope you find just the right border fabric.

  6. OMGosh Cathy, this is amazing!!! You are so close to the finish line! I like the idea of a darker border instead of white. I think the white you have is perfect and it will look fabulous against a dark fabric. I can't wait to see what you decide to do! It's just gorgeous.

  7. It's spectacular! And will always be no matter what the frame is!
I think you should pick your favourite colour since any colour will work beautifully!

  9. Think I'd go with a darker border, but I'm also going to say something radical here. I like it with just the white pentagons and that amazing shape. Would be unique! mho

I love reading all your comments, and am grateful for each one. I try very hard to answer them all, but lately I haven’t quite been able to answer all of them.
