Leo’s Mane Sew Along

Design Wall Monday Dec 5

I still have Make Your Point on my wall, same  as the past few weeks. But it is slowly making progress. Since the last picture of this quilt, the triangle borders have been actually sewn on, and there is another narrow border sewn on.

The original pattern called for these narrow borders to be pieced from random lengths of scraps, the same as the inner narrow borders.  But I wanted something with a bit more oomph and definition to it, to set off both the triangle border and the checker board that are next to it. So I went for the black with the multicolour dots.  It certainly achieved that, and looking at it in these pictures, it almost looks too much. But it is staying. The pattern also calls for an additional 2 1/2 inch border on the other side of the checker board. But to my eye right now, it looks like it is finished with the 4 patch border, and maybe the black multicoloured dots as also the binding. With the 4 patch border added on, it is 72" x 86", which is a nice generous single bed size. Any opinions? Finishing up the last of the 4 patches is my job for today, I hope. And maybe even sewing them into the borders and getting them onto the quilt. But that could be pushing it, just a bit. I'm linking up, as usual, to the design wall linky at Patchwork Times

  1. I totally agree with you, it does have oomph! If you would have used the random strips on that second border it would have been lost in there.

    good choice!

  2. No, no -- it's not too much at *all*!! I think it looks great! It does a good job of making your eye sort the inside from the outside and really accentuates the beautiful pattern it surrounds!! :)

  9. I also like the polka dot border and using it for the binding. Pieced borders are a lot of work!

I love reading all your comments, and am grateful for each one. I try very hard to answer them all, but lately I haven’t quite been able to answer all of them.
