Design Wall Monday, Jan. 5, 2015

I've got the same thing on my wall, yet again, the Plus Sign quilt. But this might be the last week for it. It's used up a whole pile of 2 1/2 inch squares that were sorted into sets of 5 and sets of 4. It's 28 squares across by 33 long, and if my math is correct, that's 924 squares! At this point, all of it is sewn together except the 7 right hand rows. I'm not sure, as yet, if it needs borders. Any opinions??? Do you think it needs borders, and, if so, what kind?
This is going to be a short post today. The guild meeting is Thursday, and I have 7 blocks left to make for this month's row, and it needs to be done by then so the members can see what this month's row looks like. In the meantime, I'm linking up to Judy's Design Wall Monday and also to a new to me link called Scraps Monday.

What I'm working on....

I'm continuing on with the plus sign quilt. The section on the left is all sewn together. I'm adding another nine rows to the bottom, and I think seven more rows to the side. It should end up being a nice size for a lap or snuggle quilt. I'll probably end up donating it, either to the children's aid, or to a women's shelter, once it's all done and quilted. I'm going to work on this some more tonight, and see how much further I can get on it.
I'm linking up to Connie's Linky Tuesday and to the Needle and Thread Network. I'm hoping by this time next week, this will be a finished top.

Design Wall Monday, Dec. 8, 2014

It's been a while since I did a post for design wall Monday. For some reason lately, I haven't had my act together enough to have picture and time to write on Mondays.  I put up a few more fabrics on the wall for this Plus Sign quilt today, filling up the space at the top of the wall. Since I took this picture, I've gotten the first four vertical rows webbed together. I'll sew the horizontal seams once all the verticals that are up there right now are done. I think that will be the easiest way to keep track of which fabrics are going where. If there are any left over at the bottom or at the sides when this section is done, I'll pin them to the wall so they don't get lost. Then I can use them as the starting point for another section, depending on how big I decide to make it. I still have a lot of sets of five squares of fabric left, so it has the potential to be at least twin sized. I'm using 2 1/2 inch squares for this. When all sewn together, this section will be 40x48 inches. It's a good start. There are a couple of spots where I can see that maybe the fabrics need to be moved around for greater contrast between the plus signs. I'm not sure if I'm going to get that fussy about it, though. Or maybe, just the one spot where the yellow/green is running into each other..........

What I'm working on....

In between working on a customer's quilt today, I started laying out all these squares. A couple of weeks ago, Charlene came over for several hours, and during that time we took out my GO Cutter and tackled some of our scraps. Charlene is also making one of these plus sign quilts, so we decided to do a fabric swap of her fabrics and mine, to increase the variety in our quilts. Charlene is making hers as a charm quilt, with no two plus signs being the same, so she needed lots of variety. I don't think I'll focus too much on using a fabric only once, but instead concentrate on an even distribution of fabrics and colours. I still need some single squares on the outer edge, and then I can start slowly sewing this together.
I'm planning on having as one of my goals for next year, to focus on using up scraps. I figure, I may as well get a head start.
I'm linking up to The Needle and Thread Network for their work in progress Wednesday.
