A couple of finishes..... finally!

Abrielle is almost a month old, and she still didn’t have a finished quilt from Grammy...... shameful, right? Well, as of yesterday, she finally has one. I did the quilting, made and added the binding all in one day. Have I mentioned that I love machine sewn binding? Her nursery theme is “love you to the moon and back”. So the quilting is a moon and stars design. And I just noticed, the onesie she’s wearing matches the quilt.
The other finish is the Baby Love double knit blanket. I ended up using a simple crochet stitch around the edge. The icord edging wasn’t doing what I wanted, which was covering up the different colours on the side edge of the knitting. The crochet edging doesn’t lay flat, no matter how ofter I tried ripping it out and changing the stitch count and the hook size. But it does cover the edges. So, in the end I decided that finished is better than perfect.

On my Needles

I’ve finished up the main section of Baby Love BlanketAll that’s left is putting on the icord edging. However, I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. I’ve really enjoyed working on this project, but I must confess to being ready to have it done. I’m hoping the edging won’t take all that long. However, if I don’t start and try figuring it out, it will take even. So, I’m going to make this a quick post, link up to Judy’s On the Needles and then try to figure it out.

On my needles, Jan.1, 2016

Well that is going to take some getting used to......... 2016.  Maybe if I do it frequently in the next week or two it will sink in that it’s 2016, but probably not.

I’m continuing to work on the Baby Love Double Knit BlanketI’m halfway through doing this green layer. After that, there are two more colours to do and it’s done. So far it measures 37 inches wide by 39 long. It should end up somewhere around 37x50 when it’s finished.  It requires a red icord edging around the outside to complete it. I’ve never done that technique before, so it’s another new thing I’ll be learning from doing this project. I think that’s on my goals list for this year, learn new things, with doing icording being the first new thing. I’m hoping to get this finished in the next week, or so. Our little grand daughter is going to arrive sometime in the next two weeks. I’d love to have it done before she does. So, with that thought in mind, I’ll link this to Judy’s On the Needles, find something to watch or listen to on Netflix, and continue to knit on.

On my needles.....

It’s still the Baby Love Double Knit Blanket, found here on Ravelry. The blanket is now officially half finished. I just did the last row of the purple last night. Tonight begins yellow, and then the first four colours repeat.
I am trying really hard to stay focused on this so I can get it done. There are so many other cute projects that I want to do, Have you seen the cute little animals out there? Look at this sweet Giraffe. It would be so cute made from the same colours as this blanket. How about this cute little sad eyed puppy dog, or this elephant. There simply aren’t enough hours in a day or days in a life time to do all the wonderful fun things and patterns available. I’m linking up to Judy’s On the Needles, and then I’m going to find something to eat and something to watch on TV, well actually closer to listen to on TV, while I do some more knitting.

On my Needles

I’m continuing to work on the Baby Love Double Knit Blanket. I added on the fourth colour on Wednesday, and am 10 rows away from adding in the next one.
Each colour runs for 25 rows. There are 11 total colour blocks or stripes, and I’m only four in, so there’s quite a way to go yet. But each time I do the pattern repeat, it gets faster. I’ve gotten to the point where I can recognize where I am on the chart, which helps a lot. At first the double knitting was very confusing to look at and to figure out. I’m so glad I stuck with it, though. This technique would make such a wonderfully warm pair of mittens, or a two coloured sweater.  However, all other knitting projects, or even plans, are on hold until this is done.
I’m linking up to Judy’s On the Needles, and then it’s back to knitting.

On my Needles

I’m working on a blanket for our grand daughter who is due to arrive in January. It’s a new technique to me, double knitting, which ends up with a reversible finished product. It’s really quite amazing how it works. It’s from a pattern called Baby Love
The biggest challenge in it, besides learning how to do it, has been figuring out the most efficient way to hold the yarn so that I’m not constantly having to drop one colour from my hand and then have to pick up the next. I’ve finally gotten the hang of it, so it should go faster from here on in. There’s 260 stitches, and it’s knit one purl one all the way across. The knit is one colour and the purl is the other colour, hence the difficulty with how to hold the yarns. And then, of course, there was the problem of figuring out how to fix a mistake where there was a red stitch right in the middle of the white heart. But that one got figured out too. I love the challenge of learning new things. And there are so many resources available either on youtube for watching, or written out depending on learning styles. I tried watching a video for doing this technique, but had to go to a written one before I truly understood what was happening. I’m two rows away from the first colour change. This project is going to take a while to get finished.
