Scrappy Purple slow Sunday stitching.

I had planned to write this up yesterday, to post along with all the Saturday scrappers. However, as usual in my life, other things got in the way. Our darling grand daughter passed another cold bug to us, and there’s a sinus infection brewing in my head. Not too terribly pleasant. So, instead of writing up a post yesterday, I crashed. However, I still managed to get some hand stitching in. Somehow, I had it in my head that this was going to end up bigger.
Obviously, my arithmetic skills were a bit challenged, when I was figuring out that 9 one inch triangles would measure more than 9 inches across. If this is going to end up being a quilt of any size, there might have to be some re-figuring out done. I really like the way it looks, though, so I’ll keep at it, since it also has the bonus of using up the tiniest of scraps. I’m linking up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching and also to yesterday’s Scrappy Saturday

Scrappy Purple saturday

Well, I’ve gone and done it. I told myself I wouldn’t and that I couldn’t because I have way too many projects already on the go. But I’ve gone and done it anyway. Joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. This month’s colour is purple. I’m making purple scrappy 1 inch equilateral triangle, which are getting put together into 3 inch triangles.
I have tons of 1 1/2 inch strips in my scrap bins, which are perfect for these. This is kinda what I’m aiming for.
The triangles in the middle may turn out to be fussy cut diamonds, if I can find some fabric with purple in it for fussy cutting, or maybe yellow for fussy cutting. And the one colour triangles around that centre star will probably be hexagons. However, considering I’ve just started this today, and I still have five of the star points to do, there is time to decide exactly where this will go. In the meantime, I’ll have some fun, bust some tiny scraps, and join up with Scrap Happy Saturday.

Friday night sew-in

I was reading Kathy's blog post today, and she mentioned that it was Friday night sew-in day. I have not participated in one of these in years! But my plans today were to spend most of the day sewing. I have a commission quilt I need to work on, so today was a day I set aside to work on it. It’s a free design called Bravo Indigo. I’m making it from Kona cottons. Here’s what I have so far.
There are 12 of the gold/snow triangle squares, which is all I need of those. And I have 23 pepper/snow triangle squares. I need a total of 78. That’s my goal for today. If I get more than that done, fabulous, but I’ll be content with that. I’ll update this post at the end of the evening with what was actually accomplished. So, I’ll sigh up to the Friday Night Sew In and then get to work.

Edit: As of 7pm, I have all 78 of the large pepper/snow triangles done. These finish at 6 inches.
I’m going to keep going and get started at least cutting for the next unit.

Slow Sunday stitching

I’ve been working a bit more on my 1 inch jewel flowers. I have two more done.
Considering the interruptions of my slow stitching occurring today, that’s not too bad. Most of the interruptions involved our little grand daughter, so they were’t bad.
We’ve been working with our new laser cutter this past week, and one of the things we did was to design and cut an acrylic ruler to use with these one inch jewels. It is my new favourite tool for fussy cutting! This is what it looks like. Once we get our web site up and running, these will be available for sale, along with the papers for EPPing. We’re starting to get an inventory built up, and we’re also working out the nitty gritty things such as package sizing, how many pieces will be in each package and the pricing. We will be the Canadian source for all these things, in Canadian dollars, and Canadian priced shipping. All of which will be a huge savings from having to buy and ship from the States. In the meantime, I continue to enjoy the whole hand stitching quilting process while making these lovely rosettes. I’m linking up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching. After that, We’re going to watch a new series starting tonight about Queen Victoria.

Friday Finish

I started out the year really well, three posts in three days. I knew it couldn’t last..... We’ve been so busy around here, trying to get things ready for the business expansion, producing English Paper Piecing papers for the Canadian market, that most other activities have been severely cut back. But, I do have a finish to show. It’s been done for a while now, but it took a long time to get a day that was nice enough for outdoor photos.

This is my quilt, Geese Around The Tulip Patch. I designed it in Electric Quilt 7 software.

Once the business section of my PayPal account is finished, there will be a pattern available for this, both in print and also as a PDF download. I followed the diagonal lines of the piecing for the quilting design, and then put a feathered wreath into alternate tulip patches.

I finished it off with my favourite faux-piped bias striped binding.

I’m linking this first official finish of the year to Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it Friday.

Slow Sunday Stitching

On this cold and snowy Sunday, I couldn’t resist the pull to begin a new hand stitching project. I recently got Willyne Hammerstein’s second book, and decided to start her project called Creme Brûlée. Here’s the first of many rosettes to come. It isn’t the most perfect fussy cutting, but I love it, none the less. Let the fussy cutting begin again!! I have lots of fabrics left that are perfect for fussy cutting, purchased when I was on the La Passacaglia binge. I think there is another binge about to happen with this project. Yes, I know I said I wanted to finish My Tweets, and I will...... eventually... But this was calling very loudly for a long time. There’s lots of motifs left in this particular fabric to choose from. So, I’ll post this and link up to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching and then go cut some more jewel shapes.

Design floor Monday

There’s nothing new on my wall. But there’s a quilting finish on my floor. It went on the machine today, got quilted, taken off and trimmed, all in one day. I’m not 100% happy with the quilting, it’s a bit unevenly distributed. But I’m saying finished is better than perfect.

That sounds good, but, this was supposed to be finished a year ago, before our grand daughter Abbie was born. She turns one on Thursday, so I decided it was time to put a rush on it. The written quilting on the left side is kinda hard to read. It says:
“Sleep my child and peace attend you, all through the night.
Guardian Angels God will send you, all through the night”

So, today makes three posts in three days. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep this up, but it’s a good start to the New Year. Blogging more frequently is one of my goals for this year. I want to get the binding made up for it tonight, so I’m going to link this up to Judy’s Design Wall Monday, and then get busy on that binding.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope it’s a great one. I’m actually starting off the year doing well..... a blog post yesterday, and another one today. I really fell off the blogging habit last year, badly. I would like for that to be one of the things that I do better this year.
We had a fun end to our day yesterday. About half an hour after I finished writing my post yesterday, found here, where I was saying I was sad because Scott and I were sick and we wouldn’t get to see Avery again before he went back home, who should show up at our door than Avery and Noel and Mel. Avery made us up the sweetest get well picture and he brought it to us in person. He sat down with us and explained all the different parts of the picture. The bottom left picture is Avery roasting marshmallows at a campfire. He says he has bunny ears rather than people ears because he doesn’t know how to draw people ears. Beside the campfire is a tent. He said he drew a tent because he didn’t know how to draw our trailer. Then there’s a picture of Mel fishing at a small lake. And the bottom left picture is of Avery and his Daddy, complete with baseball cap, out on a lake in a canoe. He even drew in bull rushes. We are most certainly having a good effect on him when it comes to enjoying the outdoors and camping. We’ll definitely have to make sure we plan some more camping trips with him this year.
I am doing some slow hand stitching today. This quilt, Geese Around the Tulip Patch, is almost finished. The binding is done. All that is left is to hand stick down the edge of the hanging sleeve. Once that is done, I can get some decent pictures of it, finish editing the pattern, and it will be ready for release. So very exciting! So, with that in mind, I’ll link up to Kathy’s first Slow Sunday Stitching of the year, and then get stitching on that hanging sleeve.
