Stay at Home Round Robin 2026

Our Prayers and Squares group was cancelled today due to copious amounts of white stuff falling from the sky and blowing around making travel anywhere dangerous. So, what’s a girl to do when she can’t go out anywhere?.... Stay home and sew, of course. The first prompt for the round robin was given yesterday, to add hour glass blocks to our centre squares. It took me a while to get it done. First, I measured the centre block wrong. Somehow, I thought it was 24 inches square, so I started sewing with that measurement in mind. I had the borders done, started to pin them to the centre, only to have a big, oh oh moment..... the border was too big. I re-measured only to find that the centre is 21 inches, not 24. There was some ripping and improvising involved to end up with a solution. It doesn’t look as good as I'd hoped and the orange is a bit more overpowering than I thought it would be, but done is better than perfect. I’ll link up to Brenda’s blog, Songbird designs.

  1. The orange doesn't look overpowering to me. I think all looks nice so far.

  2. I love your block! Your hourglasses look so pretty, and I love the orange. It brings out the tiny touch of orange in the white flowers. Nicely done. :)

  3. I love the orange! And your center green blocks amongst the hourglass are a nice design addition. This is going to be a beautiful round robin finish!

  4. The orange looks just fine…I like it! Your first border brings out the colours in the centre block beautifully. I heard you had lots of snow yesterday. Good day to stay inside and sew.

  5. Well, being a huge fan of orange, I love it! I don't think it overpowers at all! Sorry about the ripping, but yay for the pretty border!

  6. Love, love this border. I opened your photo in another tab to blow it up and get a good look at it. I love the fact that your orange is a perfect match for all the flecks of color in your center blocks -- it's perfect! I, too, had a measuring problem, but was loath to re-cut everything, so just added "coping strips" to the center block so the blocks would fit. I figure there are no rules on this SAHRR and I'm going to have fun. Lastly, I love those corner blocks--they bring a stylish edge to those fabulous center flowers!

  7. Improvisation, the opportunity to make something even better!

  8. Good improv there. I do stuff like all the time and have to add or subtract from borders. It looks wonderful and bright.

I love reading all your comments, and am grateful for each one. I try very hard to answer them all, but lately I haven’t quite been able to answer all of them.
